Description
Description — Predator Hellfire Missile
In FY2024, PRDTA2, Hellfire was completed and no future procurements are expected The Army is the Lead Service for the HELLFIRE Missile program with Air Force missiles being procured through the Army's Redstone Arsenal. HELLFIRE missiles (all variants) provide precision-kill capability and has become a key weapon in overseas operations. Laser HELLFIRE uses semi-active laser terminal guidance. The latest variant provides for point target precision strike and is effective against countermeasures. The HELLFIRE missiles are used by the MQ-9 Reaper aircraft. HELLFIRE procurement funding supports the entire HELLFIRE system to include resolution of obsolescence, end-of-life buys, safety, insensitive munitions, reliability, weapon integration activities, test sets, engineering changes, modifications, facilitation, production ramp-up activities and production issues. Funding may be used to address Diminishing Manufacturing Sources (DMS) issues. HELLFIRE unit cost may vary based on procurement quantities of Lead Service, other Services and/or Foreign Military Sales (FMS) for HELLFIRE. Prior to FY08, HELLFIRE missiles were procured under the Predator PE 0305219F. Note: These funds may also procure inventoried items which may not be procured on an annual basis and could be required on an emerging basis. Variations to cover critical shortfalls to inventory objectives as well as actual and planned expenditures will be addressed during execution year. Procurement quantities can change based on negotiated options/pricing bands and available funding, in accordance with Title 10, U.S Code Section 2308 BUY-TO-BUDGET ACQUISITION. Procurements for the execution year may vary due to changes in inventory objectives. Combatant commanders' requirements for Operational Plans influence these objectives, which are updated throughout the year. Funds may be used to address production Diminishing Manufacturing Sources (DMS)/Material Shortages/Obsolescence issues through studies, bridge buys, life of type buys, supplier/parts replacement, to include electronic components used commercially and in short supply, and qualification activities to preserve future production capabilities and capacities.
