Description
Description — Joint Strike Missile
Joint Strike Missile (JSM) is a near-term solution for long range precision strike capability against maritime surface and land targets in highly contested environments. JSM provides long-range standoff for platform survivability, performance in GPS denied environments, survivability against advanced threat systems, and internal carriage in F-35A weapons bay. Initial fielding and operational use will be on the F-35A. Integration on other platforms may occur during this time-frame as directed by ACC. Norwegian defense contractor, Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace (KDA), has completed development of JSM. Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF) funded F-35A test and integration is ongoing and is required to support delta integration for USAF JSM on the F-35A. USAF will leverage the RNoAF test and integration efforts to gain confidence of JSM performance on F-35A and improve timeline for fielding. Additionally, USAF will perform additional tests needed for USAF fielding that include service specific test and integration, regression, and qualification activities as well as cyber security compliance. The JSM procurement funding supports the entire weapon system to include resolution of obsolescence, end-of-life buys, bridge buys, test assets, simulators, COMSEC components, GPS receivers, supplier/parts replacement, to include electronic components used commercially and in short supply, and qualification activities to preserve and increase future production capabilities and capacity. Procurement funding also supports engineering and technical support needed to produce, test, modify and field the JSM and support mission planning activities. Funding may be used to perform the USAF specific test and integration, regression, and qualification activities. Funding may also be used to address Diminishing Manufacturing Sources (DMS) issues and cyber security compliance requirements. USAF JSM OT&E is projected to begin May 2026 (subject to completion of F-35 JPO/RNoAF JSM DT&E - currently projected for Dec 2025). No items are being replaced. Comparative info (e.g., range, speed) is TBD: will be assessed throughout F-35 JPO/RNoAF DT&E effort; once available, key performance characteristics are expected to be classified. USAF JSM effort heavily leverages ongoing F-35 JPO/RNoAF JSM DT&E effort and is reliant on integration of network enabled weapons (NEW) capabilities. This requirement supports performance of a full financial audit as required by title 10 U.S.C. Chapter 9A, Sec 240-D. Funding for this exhibit is contained in PE 0207335F.

The FY 2026 request for Joint Strike Missile (JSM) includes $0 thousand of discretionary and $376,901 thousand of mandatory funds for a total of $376,901 thousand. The Mandatory breakout is $210,000 thousand which will procure a quantity of 58 in Section 20009 (INDOPACOM) and $166,901 thousand which will procure a quantity of 54 in Section 20004 (Munitions and Supply Chain).
