Description
Description — Glider Mods
This line item funds modifications to the TG-15, TG-16 and TG-17 gliders, T-41, T-51, T-53 and UV-18 aircraft (a/c) used at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). Among gliders there are two TG-15A a/c and three TG-15B a/c which serve as cross-country trainers for USAFA cadets; 18 TG-16A a/c which serve as basic soaring trainers for cadets; and one TG-17 a/c which will serve as a future acrobatic trainer for cadets. Powered flight consists of four T-41D a/c which are used for pilot candidate screening and allows cadets to receive their first USAF flight check; three T-51A a/c used for cadet flight training and cadet collegiate flight competition; and 24 T-53A a/c which represent the backbone of the USAFA's Powered Flight training program where over 500 cadets participate annually. Three UV-18B aircraft support the USAFA cadet parachuting programs: Basic Freefall Parachuting, the Wings of Green, and the Wings of Blue. The primary effort in FY26 is Low-Cost Modifications, which includes T-41 & T-51 avionics modification or recapitalization, T-53 performance enhancement, FAA Service Bulletins, Air Worthiness Directives, Program Support Costs, and studies and analysis. Justification — Glider Mods
FY 2026 Funding is required to ensure airworthiness of U.S. Air Force Academy aircraft and for low-cost modifications to extend service life, improve performance, and modernize the weapon systems.
