Description
Description — combat flight inspection - CFIN
This funding supports the unique military equipment on four Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) owned, Air Force operated, Bombardier Challenger flight inspection aircraft to provide the DoD Combat Flight Inspection (CFIN) capability. CFIN is an Air Force combat capability to validate and certify airfield instrument approach and landing equipment, and associated instrument procedures, are safe and meet specifications before all-weather combat flight operations can begin. The CFIN capability is provided by four FAA Bombardier Challenger aircraft modified with unique military equipment required for the CFIN mission, including secure anti-jam radios, military Identification Friend or Foe Mode IV and V transponders, and survivability equipment. Low-cost modifications are necessary to mitigate emerging issues regarding flight safety, reliability, and maintainability of the C-143 fleet. Funding may be used to address Diminishing Manufacturing Sources (DMS) issues. In FY 2026, BLI CFIN00 (combat flight inspection - CFIN), efforts were transferred to BLI OSAEA0, OSA-EA Modifications, in order to consolidate Budget Line Items for increased funding flexibility. Funding for this exhibit is contained in PE 0401314F.
