Description — MOD of In-Svc Equipment (ENFIRE)
In accordance with section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110 - 181), this item is necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities. Funds are used to modernize the following core Engineer capabilities to support Homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities: INSTRUMENT SET RECONNAISSANCE AND SURVEY (Common name ENFIRE): ENFIRE executes reconnaissance, route clearance, obstacle reporting, construction management, survey support, terrain analysis and management. Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) capabilities are leveraged to capture, process and disseminate data through SIPR / NIPR Blue Force Tracker 2 (BFT2) Transceiver, Harris and other Tactical Radios that are organic to gaining units. ENFIRE is interoperable with Army Mission Command and USMC C2PC. This capability supports soldier Lethality by assessment of Environmental, Terrain and Infrastructure features. ENFIRE delivers reconnaissance and engineering capabilities that are accurate, interoperable and flexible. Tasks previously accomplished using analog methods have been automated reducing time on target and most can be conducted from a discrete stand-off position. The COTS baseline supports rapid modernization by adoption and integration. ENFIRE Army Acquisition Objective (AAO): 2883 GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM - SURVEY (GPS-S): GPSS is a survey system capable of using military and commercial GPS satellite signals to perform precise static, kinematic, real-time- kinematic (RTK) surveys for geodetic control, construction, topographic and hydrographic survey. The GPS-S is used for independent navigation, Local Area Differential GPS (LADGPS) and precise point positioning. This capability supports Soldier Lethality by applying sub-meter and centimeter accuracy to targeting, navigation and survey operations. GPS-S provides precise survey and positioning information necessary for construction; precise position navigation and timing; topographic survey, hydrographic survey, construction, and geodetic control. GPS-S AAO: 773 AUTOMATED INTEGRATED SURVEY INSTRUMENT (AISI): AISI is a COTS electronic transit theodolite integrated with Electronic Distance Measurement (EDM) used to measure both vertical & horizontal angles and slope distance from the instrument to a physical, targeted point. The system requires direct line of sight between any two points to establish relative coordinates using trigonometry and triangulation. The data collected is used for the creation of topographic maps and control points of an area of interest. This capability supports Soldier Lethality by adding higher accuracy terrain data that can be exploited for targeting, construction, and design operations. AISI provides the Army Surveyor the capability to determine horizontal and vertical position to a high degree of precision and accuracy in areas where GPS is not available or is operationally constrained. AISI AAO: 886 Note: ENFIRE, GPS-S and AISI Hardware and Software are Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) and Government Off the Shelf (GOTS) procurements. ENFIRE tech refresh kits are comprised of COTS components that replace equipment that has reached the end of its useful life. The technical refresh is critical to modernization, maintaining a strong security posture and interoperability with Army enterprise systems. Justification — MOD of In-Svc Equipment (ENFIRE)
FY 2026 Base procurement dollars in the amount of $16.595 million will support tech refresh of up to 165 ENFIRE systems.
