Description
Description — MID-RANGE CAPABILITY (MRC)
This budget line procures Tomahawk and Standard Missile-6 (SM-6) missiles to meet the Army Total Munition Requirement and procures MRC Ground Support Equipment end items and components. The Mid-Range Capability is a ground launched, long-range precision fires offensive weapon system to defeat Anti-Access/Area-Denial (A2/AD) threats and other high value targets to enable warfighter dominance in support of Long-Range Precision Fires, Multi-Domain Operations, and Joint Force objectives. Each battery consists of four launchers equipped with a Vertical Launch System capable of carrying four of the U.S. Navy's Tomahawk and/or SM-6 with a basic load of 16 missiles, one Battery Operations Center (BOC), one BOC Support Vehicle, and a reload capability. Tomahawk missiles procured on Navy contracts will include the Block V modernized Tactical Tomahawk (TACTOM) missile that includes navigation communications upgrade and advanced communication package (ACP). These TACTOM upgrades consist of the Integrated Single Box Solution radio, two new antennas and associated cabling, a new mid-body cover, changes to the aft-body structure and aft-body cover, and installation of the ACP. In FY25, the Army is procuring a mix of Block V and Block Va Maritime Strike Tomahawks (MST). Beginning in FY26, the Army will only procure the MST variant. SM-6 missiles procured on Navy contracts will be in the Block IA configuration. The MRC SM-6 missiles provide land and naval surface targeting capability. SM-6 missiles are procured as an all up round including guidance, ordnance, MK 72 Boosters, and a MK 21 Canister.

Justification — MID-RANGE CAPABILITY (MRC)
C81214 | FY 2026 funding of $42.874 million supports the procurement of seven MSTs and MK14 cannisters, along with program management costs. C81215 | FY 2026 funding of $4.801 million supports MRC GSE systems engineering and program management costs. C81216 | FY 2026 funding of $34.732 million supports the procurement of six SM-6 Block IA configuration missiles. This funding line is directly aligned to the Army Long-Range Precision Fires Modernization Priority and the requirements of the MRC Abbreviated-Capabilities Development Document. The Army intends to convert any price advantage created through Navy contract negotiations, other service procurement, and/or foreign military sales to support procurement of additional MRC munitions. Decrease in funding from $233.037 million in FY 2025 to $82.407 million in FY 2026 is due to reduced missile quantities procured in FY26 and completing GSE end item procurement in FY25. C81214 | FY 2024 quantity of 58 locked from prior budget submission. Program Office anticipates a reduced quantity of 26 in response to unit cost increase on Navy TLAM production contract.
