Description
Description — Mechanized Material Handling Equip
The Mechanized Material Handling Equipment (MMHE) Program supports the Air Force's logistics and sustainment mission by providing efficient storage, handling, and distribution capabilities globally across Air Force installations. This program ensures readiness and operational continuity through modernization and automation of material handling processes. The MMHE program enhances supply chain operations, base-level aircraft maintenance functions, air transportation logistics, and warehouse management by deploying advanced materials handling solutions. The MMHE line provides funding for static and automated materials handling equipment to efficiently store, receive, and ship materiel at Air Force bases worldwide. MMHE involves the design and acquisition of mechanized and non-mechanized materials handling systems to modernize and enhance supply operations, base-level aircraft maintenance, air transportation missions, and other warehouse and storage processes. Most MMHE is one of the following equipment types: • Material Storage and Distribution Systems, which consists of equipment within a warehouse or aircraft hangar used to receive, store, and ship material. Common types of equipment include racks, shelving, modular cabinets, mezzanines, mobile aisle systems, conveyors, vertical lift modules, vertical carousels, narrow-aisle warehouse trucks, and overhead cranes. • Aerial Port Equipment for air transportation, which includes heavy-duty freight handling 463L pallet conveyors, pallet buildup/breakdown lift stations, cargo storage racks, and overhead bridge cranes for air freight terminal systems; roller conveyors and overhead cranes for aerial delivery systems; and inbound and outbound baggage conveyors and passenger boarding bridges for air passenger terminals. • External Aircraft Fuel Tank Storage Systems, which are used to store and access external aircraft fuel tanks. Adequately equipped facilities are essential to the storage and handling of weapon system components, mobility gear, supply items, and for rapid processing of personnel, freight, and baggage. Proper MMHE reduces pipeline time, reduces damage to weapon system components during handling and storage, and enhances personnel safety. MMHE provides enhanced Air Force capability to respond to crises and threats whenever they occur in the world. In accordance with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110-181), this item is necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities. Justification
Justification — Mechanized Material Handling Equip
FY 2026 procurement funds for Mechanized Material Handling Equipment (MMHE) increases the productivity of Air Force operations, enhances management control of assets, reduces multiple handling of logistics materiel by consolidating assets, enhances safety, reduces losses due to damage of materiel during storage and transport, and reduces congestion and delays in the receiving, storage and issue operations in supply, base-level aircraft maintenance, air transportation, and other warehouse and storage facilities. Aerial port MMHE is vital to maintain and enhance rapid deployment and sustainment capabilities. Funds will also procure MMHE to support the KC-46A program at various Main Operating Bases (MOBs). FY 2026 MMHE is to be purchased in the following quantities: • 17 material storage and distribution systems • 2 aerial port equipment systems Program Support Costs are included.
