Description — FUTURE UNMANNED AERIAL SYSTEMS (UAS) FAMILY
Future Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Family (Agile) is a part of the Department of Defense Capability Based (Agile) funding pilot, which provides enhanced capabilities by fostering innovation and accelerated deployment of promising technology. Funding in this portfolio will be directed towards enhanced warfighting effectiveness and combating limitations from the pace and proliferation of technological change. This is not a new start. This funding is a realignment from: 1) A00510 Future Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System (FTUAS) / A00511 Air Launched Effects and A01311 Future Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System (TUAS) 2) A01002 UAS MODS / A00121 OSRVT MODS 3) A01001 MQ-1 Payload / A01005 CSP FMV The Future Unmanned Aerial System (FUAS) is a critical system in the cross-domain capabilities concept that will employ multi-domain operation (MDO) capabilities at all echelons and allow ground-based forces to project power from land into other domains to defeat highly capable enemies, secure terrain, and consolidate gains. FUAS provides a runway independent, vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL), expeditionary reconnaissance, surveillance, target acquisition (RSTA) with multiple sensors, communications, lethality and electromagnetic warfare capability). FUAS supports Human Machine Integrated Formations (HMIF) and provides the opportunity to learn, fail, refine requirements, and develop solutions faster than our adversaries; FUAS incorporates soldier feedback to enhance survivability in a multi-domain operations (MDO) environment through modular payloads to facilitate upgraded communication, encryption, and lethality at the pace of technology. Additionally, FUAS provides BCTs with enhanced transportability, rapid deployability, expeditionary maneuver, and mobility for adaptive and agile operations. One BCT system consists of multiple air vehicles with Modular Mission Payloads (MMPs), ground control stations, and ancillary equipment. The aircraft subsystem includes the airframe, propulsion, avionics, communications, navigation, and software systems; aircraft-specific ground support equipment including power generation, transportation, or command and control equipment; aircraft software and MMPs. Launched Effects (LE) will provide Army formations the ability to retain their asymmetric advantage in reach, protection, and lethality in the execution of Joint All-Domain Operations (JADO). The lethal and nonlethal air and ground capabilities of LE will provide seamless real-time integration of multiple warfighting functions in the execution of joint attack, reconnaissance, and security operations that create multiple dilemmas for the enemy. LE efforts are based on requirements from an Army Requirements Oversight Council (AROC) approved Abbreviated-Capability Development Document (A-CDD) approved 08 July 2024. Manned, optionally-manned, and uncrewed systems will penetrate defense-in-depth environments by employing LE with teaming and swarming effects to detect, decoy, jam radar and communications, conduct cyber-attack, spoof and jam Global Positioning System (GPS), and kinetic engagement. The Common Sensor Payload (CSP) (MIP) (I48014) budget line supports procurement of Aerial Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (A-ISR) payload systems for Divisions and Echelons Above Division Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). Funding in this budget line supports a Sensor Centric approach for sensors onboard the Gray Eagle MQ-1C UAS, high-altitude platforms (including Micro High-Altitude Balloons (mHAB)), medium altitude manned systems, and unmanned stratospheric A-ISR systems. Funding in this budget line also supports, but is not limited to, emerging UAS sensor requirements such as Electro Optic/Infrared/Laser Designator (EO/IR/LD), Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), Hyper Spectral Imagery (HSI), and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). The Common Sensor Payload (CSP) is an EO/IR/LD sensor that provides an advanced state-of-the-art sensor suite that can be used to collect critical information across the visible and infrared portions of the electromagnetic spectrum for Battlefield Commanders. The CSP is required for MQ-1C Gray Eagle (GE) Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) operation and serves as the "eyes" of the UAS by providing high-definition imagery in day or night conditions for detection and classification of targets/threats. The CSP also provides a targeting capability for laser-guided munitions, to include air-to-ground AGM-114 Hellfire missiles. The Target Location Accuracy (TLA) capability inherent to CSP Version 3 (v3) enables precision, near-real time engagements with Coordinate Seeking Weapons (CSWs) by reducing the sensor-to-shooter process from minutes to seconds. Electronics Intelligence (ELINT) and Electronic Support Measures (ESM) capabilities provide high precision direction finding and geolocation with 360-degree instantaneous field of view coverage from the nose, tail, port, and starboard sides of the UAS. CSP is part of the Army Transformation Initiative. PM will inform Congress of any quantity changes between products in the next update.

FY 2026 funding was transferred from Budget Activity (BA) 1, Future UAS Family to BA 6, I48000 FUTURE UNMANNED AERIAL SYSTEMS (UAS) FAMILY in support of Agile Portfolio Management. This is not a new start. This funding is a realignment from: 1) A00510 Future Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System (FTUAS) / A00511 Air Launched Effects and A01311 Future Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System (TUAS) 2) A01002 UAS MODS / A00121 OSRVT MODS 3) A01001 MQ-1 Payload / A01005 CSP FMV Future Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Family is part of the Army Transformation Initiative. PM will inform Congress of any quantity changes between products in the next update. In accordance with section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110 - 181), this item is necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities.
