Description
Description — Mortar Fire Control Systems Modifications
The Mortar Fire Control System (MFCS) accurately determines weapon position and orientation, navigates, calculates ballistics, and communicates digitally on the Fires Support Network. The MFCS main Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) are: the Fire Control Computer (FCC), Enhanced Power Distribution Assembly (EPDA), Inertial Navigation Unit (INU), Portable Universal Battery Supply (PUBS), Gunner's Display (GD), and cable sets. Mortar Fire Control System Modifications efforts support the current MFCS mounted and dismounted variants as well as Lightweight Handheld Mortar Ballistic Computer (LHMBC) and future modernized mortar fire control systems, and enable the replacement of aging/obsolete major system components. Modification efforts include: Military-Code (M-Code) integration, lightweight weapon pointing device upgrades, transition to Modular Open Systems Architecture, transition to common mortar application software and Graphical User Interface (GUI), and implementation of software upgrades in accordance with Army Directive 2024-2 (Enabling Modern Software Development & Acquisition).

Justification — Mortar Fire Control Systems Modifications
Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Base procurement dollars in the amount of $3.262 million will support Mortar Fire Control Systems (MFCS) and Lightweight Handheld Mortar Ballistic Computer (LHMBC) M32A1 systems Military-Code (M-Code) integration activities, procurement of M-Code hardware for MFCS and retrofit fielded LHMBC M32A1 systems to meet military positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) encryption signal and anti-spoofing M-Code requirements. Funding will also support the implementation of software upgrades in accordance with Army Directive 2024-2 (Enabling Modern Software Development & Acquisition).
