Description — SMALL UNMANNED AERIAL SYSTEMS
Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (Agile) is a part of the Department of Defense Capability Based (Agile) Funding Pilot. Funding in this portfolio will be directed towards enhanced warfighting effectiveness and combating limitations from the pace and proliferation of technological change. This funding is not a new start, it is a realignment from: 1) Small Unmanned Aerial Systems / SHORT RANGE RECONNAISSANCE (A12511) 2) Small Unmanned Aerial Systems/ LONG RANGE RECONNAISSANCE (A12513) This capability portfolio provides support to the Army's UAS Priority to deliver cutting-edge technology and rapidly evolving critical capabilities. Small Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (SUAS) are critical aviation assets that increase lethality and security through organic aerial reconnaissance, surveillance, and targeting capabilities for battalion and below echelons. SUAS enhances situational awareness and force protection for maneuver elements operating in complex environments by providing real-time Full Motion Video (FMV) and sensor data through a variety of modular sensors. These multifaceted capabilities enable Army formations to leverage the air-ground littoral to project combat power across domains, disrupt near-peer threats, secure key terrain, and support mission success through persistent overwatch. Leveraging a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA), SUAS platforms are designed for rapid adaptation through swappable payloads, advanced autonomous flight capabilities, and scalable software-ensuring relevance against both current and emerging operational threats. PM will inform Congress of any quantity changes between products in the next update.

FY 2026 funding was transferred from Budget Activity (BA) 1, A12500 SMALL UNMANNED AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS to BA 6, I47000 SMALL UNMANNED AERIAL SYSTEMS in support of Agile Portfolio Management. This funding is not a new start, it is a realignment from: 1) Small Unmanned Aerial Systems / SHORT RANGE RECONNAISSANCE (A12511) 2) Small Unmanned Aerial Systems/ LONG RANGE RECONNAISSANCE (A12513) FY 2026 Base procurement dollars support Short Range Reconnaissance (SRR), Joint Tactical Autonomous Aerial Resupply System (JTAARS), Company Level SUAS Directed Requirement (Co Lvl SUAS DR), Medium Range Reconnaissance (MRR), Long Range Reconnaissance (LRR) and Purpose Built Attritable System (PBAS). Small Unmanned Aerial Systems is part of the Army Transformation Initiative. PM will inform Congress of any quantity changes between products in the next update.
