(E46400) Signal, Hand Held Red Star Cluster M158 The Family of Hand Held Signals are individually launched pyrotechnics used for signaling and illumination. The payload is launched by a small, fin stabilized rocket and reaches a height of 725 feet. M158 is a red star cluster signal used primarily for signaling and illuminating missions. (E49100) Flare, AC Countermeasure, M206 Magnesium Teflon IR The M206 flare is part of the family of advance Infrared Countermeasure flares/decoys designed to protect Army helicopters and fixed wing aircraft against infrared seeking missile threats. The M206 flare is in a 1"x1"x8" form factor in an aluminum case. The flare consists of magnesium, Teflon, Viton (MTV) composition that is wrapped in an aluminum filament and inserted into the aluminum case that is then closed with a felt spacer and sealed with a plastic end cap. The M206 composition is ignited and expelled by the BBU-35B/M796 impulse cartridge from the Common Missile Warning System (CMWS). (E49101) Flare, Aircraft Countermeasure, RF (Passive) XM20 The XM20 is a next generation Radio Frequency (RF) expendable countermeasure that provides effective coverage against current and advanced Surface-to-Air missiles (SAM), and advance guided missiles in the RF frequency bands. This item will be Code A, approved for service use once it reaches Materiel Release in 2QFY26. (E49102) Flare, Aircraft Countermeasures, XM215 The XM215 is a next generation Infrared (IR) expendable countermeasure that provides effective coverage against current and advanced Man-Portable Air-Defense Systems (MANPADS) and advance guided missiles in the muti-electro optical bands. This is a Code B, not approved for service use pending type classification (E49105) CTG, Impulse, Countermeasure, BBU-35/B The BBU-35/B Impulse Cartridge is used to ignite and/or eject aircraft countermeasure flares, decoys and chaff (M206, M212, M211, XM215, M1/M839/RR170 Series and XM20) designed to protect Army helicopters and fixed wing aircraft against Radar Frequency and Man-portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS). The BBU-35/B replaces the M796 impulse cartridge used by the Army. The impulse cartridge functions after receiving an electrical signal from the Common Missile Warning System (CMWS). The impulse cartridge produces hot gases that ignites/pushes the flare/decoy payload out of the host aircraft. This item is Code A, approved for service use. (E62900) SMOKE POT PRACTICE M8 The M8 Floating Smoke Pot is a five-gallon metal pail containing roughly 25 pounds of environmentally acceptable smoke mixture. It is initiated by a pyrotechnic delay igniting fuse. After ignition and roughly a 25-second delay, dense smoke cloud is produced for screening purposes to conceal troop, vehicle, or other march movements, particularly at river crossings. It is deployed in a similar manner as the M4 and M5 series service smoke pot. It is used by the individual Soldier in squad, company and battalion units. This item is Code A, approved for service use. (E88900) Flare AC Countermeasure M211 Pyrophoric Msl IR Decoy The M211 decoy is part of the family of advance Infrared Countermeasure flares/decoys designed to protect Army helicopters and fixed wing aircraft against infrared seeking missile threats. The M211 decoy is in a 1"x1"x8" form factor in an aluminum case. The decoy consists of a piston, special material payload foils that are inserted into the aluminum case and sealed with a metal end cap. The special material is pyrophoric iron that reacts with oxygen when exposed to air when expelled by the BBU-35B/M796 impulse cartridge from the Common Missile Warning System (CMWS). This is a Code A, approved for service use.
Justification
Justification — Signals, All Types
FY 2026 Base Budget supports critical Army Title 10 war reserve/operational, training, and test requirements IAW DoD Instruction 3000.04 (Munitions Requirements Process) and AR 5-13 (Total Army Munitions Requirements Process and Prioritization System). War reserve requirements support OSD-approved Combatant Commander Operational Plans, Homeland Defense, and other OSD-directed missions. Training requirements support individual and collective training of Active and Reserve Component forces at Army schools, home station, and the combined training centers. Test requirements support the development, fielding, safety, and quality assurance of Army munitions and equipment throughout their life cycle. In accordance with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110-181), this item is necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities." FY 2026 Total Base dollars in the amount of $36.846 million supports the procurement of ten variants of signals.
