This budget line includes Grenades, All Types. (E00500) GRENADE 66MM VEH LNCHD WHITE SMK SCREENING TNG M82 M82 Simulant Smoke Grenade is a 66mm fielded grenade used to train in the usage and deployment of the M76 infra-red, M81 graphite, brass flake and L8 Red Phosphorus grenades. M82 contains the same internal and external components of the tactical M76 grenade except for a new fill material (titanium dioxide in place of the brass flake powder) along with a reduction in the amount of black powder contained in the propellant. The grenade is electrically initiated and propellant-launched to disseminate a visual screen cloud at a distance of roughly 30 meters away from the combat equipped vehicle. This item is code A, approved for service use. (E31900) FUZE GRENADE HAND PRAC M228 Fuze Grenade Hand Practice M228 is a pyrotechnic delay-igniting fuze (delay time of 4 to 5.5 seconds) used with the M69 practice grenade body. The grenade is identical in size, shape and weight to the M67 fragmentation hand grenade. It is used to learn about the grenade as well to practice grenade throwing skills; thereby improving warfighter knowledge and use of it. The fuze contains a primer, a pyrotechnic delay column and a black powder output charge (to generate an audible report). A striker, striker spring, safety lever, safety pin with pull ring, safety clip, and igniter assembly are assembled to the body. This item is Code A, approved for service use. (E31911) GRENADE, HAND SMOKE SCREENING, M330 M330 is an improved obscurant grenade that provides the warfighter with screening performance equivalent to the legacy AN-M8 smoke grenade. M330 will replace the toxic carcinogen fill used in the AN-M8 smoke grenade with a environmentally friendly formulation. The legacy AN-M8 has been restricted to use in contingency operations due to its toxic effects. The M83 training smoke grenade currently used in lieu of AN-M8, in both training and tactical operations, does not give the screening performance comparable to the legacy AN-M8. Soldiers must also use three M83 grenades to produce obscuration effects comparable to a single AN-M8 grenade. M330 will not only reduce the Soldier's combat load but will also provide sufficient tactical obscuration compared to M83 thereby increasing Soldier mobility and survivability during operations under enemy fire. (E32000) GRENADE HAND FRAG DELAY M67 Grenade Hand Fragmentation Delay M67 consists of a 2.5-inch diameter steel sphere that is designed to burst into numerous fragments when detonated. The grenade body is filled with approximately 5.4 ounces of high explosive Composition B. Each grenade is fitted with an M213 fuze that initiates the explosive charge within 4 to 5.5 seconds after the release of the safety lever. M67 Hand Grenade provides the Soldier with the capability to conduct pre-mobilization training and close combat operations. M67 is an enabler for Soldier Lethality as it provides Soldiers with a highly effective capability that is easy to throw and can produce casualties to enemy combatants via a 15- meter fragmentation radius. This capability allows for increased lethality of dismounted Soldiers making the unit more efficient and lethal. This item is Code A, approved for service use. (E33010) GRENADE HAND OFFENSIVE M111 M111 Offensive Hand Grenade (OHG) consists of a plastic octagonal-shape body designed to provide lethal blast overpressures that are effective in indoor and close combat environments where fragments are not desired to reduce collateral damage. Each grenade is filled with PAX-3 pressed explosive and is fitted with a M213 pyrotechnical delay fuze that initiates the explosive charge. The M111 OHG is an enabler for Soldier lethality as it produces blast overpressures against enemy troops in indoor areas, bunkers, trench lines, and tunnels. This capability allows for increased lethality of dismounted Soldiers making the unit more efficient and lethal. The M111 OHG is a environmentally friendly replacement for the MK3A2 OHG, which contains asbestos. This item will be Code A, approved for service use upon achieving Full Materiel Release, which is anticipated for 4Q FY 2025. (E34001) GRENADE HAND SMOKE GREEN M18 The M18 is an enabler for Soldier Lethality as it provides the Warfighter with multi-functional capability that provides both effective marking and screening allowing the unit to be more efficient and effective in combat operations. Grenade Hand Smoke Green M18 is used by the Soldier for ground-to-air or ground-to-ground signaling while conducting training and combat operations. Each grenade will emit smoke for 50 to 90 seconds. The grenade body is made of a thin sheet metal filled with starter patches and a green smoke composition. The Hand Grenade Fuze (M201A1) is a pyrotechnic delay-igniting fuze. The body contains a primer, first-fire mix, pyrotechnic delay column, and ignition mixture. Assembled to the body are a striker, striker spring, safety lever and safety pin with pull ring. This item is Code A, approved for service use. (E34002) GRENADE HAND SMOKE YELLOW M18 The M18 is an enabler for Soldier Lethality as it provides the Warfighter with multi-functional capability that provides both effective marking and screening allowing the unit to be more efficient and effective in combat operations. Grenade Hand Smoke Yellow M18 is used by the Warfighter for ground-to-air or ground-to-ground signaling while conducting training and combat operations. Each grenade will emit smoke for 50 to 90 seconds. The grenade body is made of a thin sheet metal, filled with starter patches and a yellow smoke composition. The Hand Grenade Fuze (M201A1) is a pyrotechnic delay-igniting fuze. The body contains a primer, first-fire mix, pyrotechnic delay column, and ignition mixture. Assembled to the body are a striker, striker spring, safety lever, and safety pin with pull ring. This item is Code A, approved for service use. (E35801) BODY GRENADE HAND PRAC M112 The M112 Practice Offensive Hand Grenade (POHG) is a reloadable training grenade for the M111 OHG. It consists of a steel octagonal-shape body with the M228 practice grenade fuze to simulate the visual and audible sounds of the M111 OHG. The M112 POHG is identical in size, shape and weight to the M111 OHG. Its purpose is to familiarize Soldiers with the components, characteristics and functioning of the M111 OHG as well as provide realistic training on arming and employing the munition. This item will be Code A, approved for service use upon achieving Full Materiel Release, which is anticipated for 4Q FY 2025. (E69300) GRENADE HAND SMOKE WHITE M83 Grenade Hand Smoke (White) M83 provides the Warfighter the capability to generate white smoke for screening activities while conducting small unit operations in both training and tactical combat operations. It is also used for ground-to-air signaling. This grenade is the tactical interim replacement for the M8 HC Smoke Grenade, which was found to be carcinogenic. The duration of smoke screen or signal is 25 to 70 seconds, average burn time. The grenade body is a cylinder of thin sheet metal. It is filled with non-toxic smoke mixture topped with a starter patch. The Hand Grenade Fuze (M201A1) is a pyrotechnic delay-igniting fuze. The body contains a primer, first-fire mix, pyrotechnic delay column, and ignition mixture. Assembled to the body are a striker, striker spring, safety lever, and safety pin with pull ring. This item is Code A, approved for service use.
Justification
Justification — Grenades, All Types
FY 2026 Base Budget supports critical Army Title 10 war reserve/operational, training, and test requirements in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD) Instruction 3000.04 (Munitions Requirements Process) and Army Regulation (AR) 5-13 (Total Army Munitions Requirements Process and Prioritization System). War reserve requirements support Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) approved Combatant Commander Operational Plans, Homeland Defense, and other OSD-directed missions. Training requirements support individual and collective training of Active and Reserve Component forces at Army schools, home station, and the combined training centers. Test requirements support the development, fielding, safety, and quality assurance of Army munitions and equipment throughout their life cycle. In accordance with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110-181), this item is necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities. FY 2026 Total Base dollars in the amount of $56.530 million supports procurement of eleven variants of Grenades.
