This budget line includes 40MM ALL TYPES: (E05610) CTG 40mm M781E1 Low Velocity Day Night Thermal cartridge is a training cartridge for the M203 and M320 Grenade Launchers. This ammunition consists of a projectile assembly and cartridge case assembly. The projectile ogive is filled with a signature material that provides a signature upon impact that can be seen day or night with the unaided eye and thermal and night vision weapon sights. The cartridge does not contain any fuzing or explosives, eliminating unexploded ordnance issues on the training ranges due to non-functioning training ammunition. This item is Code B, not approved for service use. (E05611) CTG 40mm M918E2 High Velocity Day Night Thermal cartridge is a training cartridge for the MK19 Grenade Machine Gun. This ammunition consists of a projectile assembly and cartridge case assembly. The projectile ogive is filled with a signature material that provides a signature upon impact that can be seen day or night with the unaided eye and thermal and night vision weapon sights. The cartridge does not contain any fuzing or explosives, eliminating unexploded ordnance issues on the training ranges due to non-functioning training ammunition. This item is Code B, not approved for service use. (E11800) CTG 40mm M430A1 is a High Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP) cartridge fired from the MK19 Grenade Machine Gun at a max range of 2,200 meters. It is capable of penetrating three inches of steel armor and inflicting personnel casualties in the target area. This item is Code A, approved for service use. (E12601) CTG 40mm Low Velocity M433E1 is a High Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP) cartridge fired from the M320 Grenade Launcher to a max range of 400 meters. The M433E1 cartridge consists of a steel body with tungsten pellets with a Comp A5 high explosive charge, Point Initiating Base Detonating (PIBD) fuze assembly with a Spitback charge, copper cone liner, and aluminum cartridge case. Upon impact, detonation of the Comp A5 causes fragmentation of the projectile body on the target and forms an armor piercing jet created by the copper shaped-charge liner, which is capable of penetrating a minimum of two inches of Rolled Homogeneous Armor (RHA) plate. This item is Code B, not approved for service use. (E70505) CTG 40mm High Velocity (HV) High Explosive Dual Purpose - Air burst (HEDP-AB) XM1176 cartridge is a new capability that will provide the Mk19 Mod 3 Grenade Machine Gun (GMG) an air burst capable cartridge with the ability of achieving required lethal effects against enemy targets in the open and in defilade, while maintaining the capability to defeat unarmored and lightly armored vehicles. The XM1176 HEDP-AB cartridges are manufactured by de-fuzing legacy M430A1 cartridges and installing a new airburst capable fuze onto the M430A1 warhead. This item is Code B, not approved for service use. (E71005) CTG 40mm Low Velocity High Explosive Air Burst (HEAB) XM1166 cartridge is a new capability that addresses a counter-defilade capability gap and allows the Warfighter to engage targets at increased effective ranges using the 40mm M320 Grenade Launcher. The HEAB cartridge provides the grenadier with a higher probability of achieving a first shot kill against enemy personnel, coupled with the ability to defeat personnel targets in defilade positions. When deployed against point and area targets, the cartridge inflicts incapacitating effects against personnel beyond those offered by the current M433 High Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP) cartridge. The cartridge provides lethal effects against targets with improved accuracy and greater standoff ranges resulting in increased soldier survivability. This item is Code B, not approved for service use. (E74315) The 40mm Practice M918/M385A1 Mixed Belt cartridge configuration for the MK19 Grenade Machine Gun is a high velocity training projectile with realistic signature effects providing sufficient flash, smoke, and sound upon impact to be seen/heard out to 1,200 meters. In addition to providing audible/visual signature for day or night firing, the mixed belt for MK19 Grenade Machine Gun will minimize hazards to troops in the training area. This item is Code A, approved for service use.
Justification
Justification — CTG, 40mm, All Types
FY 2026 Base Budget supports critical Army Title 10 war reserve/operational, training, and test requirements IAW DoD Instruction 3000.04 (Munitions Requirements Process) and AR 5-13 (Total Army Munitions Requirements Process and Prioritization System). War reserve requirements support OSD-approved Combatant Commander Operational Plans, Homeland Defense, and other OSD-directed missions. Training requirements support individual and collective training of Active and Reserve Component forces at Army schools, home station, and the combined training centers. Test requirements support the development, fielding, safety, and quality assurance of Army munitions and equipment throughout their life-cycle. In accordance with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110-181), this item is necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities. FY 2026 Total Base procurement dollars in the amount of $131.432 million support procurement of 2.209 million cartridges. (E05610) CTG 40mm M781E1 Low Velocity Day Night Thermal is a training unique item not used in combat. The FY 2026 request supports annual training and builds a depot level in accordance with Army's procurement goals. FY 2026 Base Procurement dollars in the amount of $13.333 million support the procurement of 0.515 million cartridges. Type classification date: 31 May 2017, Limited Procurement (E05611) CTG 40mm M918E2 High Velocity Day Night Thermal is a training unique item not used in combat. The FY 2026 request supports annual training and builds a depot level in accordance with Army's procurement goals. FY 2026 Base Procurement dollars in the amount of $111.054 million support the procurement of 1.665 million cartridges. Type classification date: 31 May 2017, Limited Procurement (E11800) CTG 40mm M430A1 High Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP) cartridge is a war reserve item used in combat. The request builds a war reserve inventory in accordance with Army's procurement goals. There is no FY 2026 budget request for this item. Type classification date: 1971 (E12601) CTG 40mm Low Velocity M433E1 is a training standard item used in both training and combat. The FY 2026 request supports annual training and builds a war reserve inventory in accordance with the Army's procurement goals.
