SSN E09292 / CTG, 30MM APFSDS-T is a new start within the CTG, 30mm, All Types program in FY 2026 SSN E91122 / CTG, 30MM C-UAS HE PROXIMITY FUSE is a new start within the CTG, 30mm, All Types program in FY 2026 This budget line includes 30MM ALL TYPES: (E07306) Program of Record (POR) 30x173mm M1173 Target Practice with Trace (TP-T) cartridge is ballistically matched to the tactical round, the XM1182 HEAB-T cartridge, allowing the Warfighter to train in a realistic, cost- effective manner. This item is Code B, not approved for service use. (E07610) Program of Record (POR) 30x173mm XM1182 High Explosive Airburst with Trace (HEAB-T) will provide the Warfighter with increased anti-personnel lethality effects against troops in the open and behind urban structures, counter defilade capability, enhancing the operational effectiveness and lethality of the Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicle (ICV) and any Army Fighting Vehicles that are equipped with a 30x173mm weapon system. This item is Code B, not approved for service use. (E09191) Program of Record (POR) 30x173mm XM1172 Target Practice Discarding Sabot with Trace (TPDS-T) cartridge is ballistically matched to the tactical round, the XM1170 Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot with Trace (APFSDS-T) cartridge, allowing the Warfighter to train in a realistic, cost-effective manner. This item is Code B, not approved for service use. (E09292) Program of Record (POR) 30x173mm XM1170 Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot with Trace (APFSDS-T) cartridge will provide an organic direct fire capability to support infantry at a greater range and will improve lethality when engaging light-to-medium armored vehicles, increasing anti-materiel capability and enhancing the operational effectiveness and lethality of the Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicle (ICV) and any Army Fighting Vehicles that are equipped with a 30x173mm weapon system. This item is Code B, not approved for service use. (E09900) 30mm High Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP) cartridge: --30mm M789 HEDP is the only qualified combat cartridge for use in the Apache Helicopter's M230 Chain Gun. It is also used by the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR), fired from the MH-60L Blackhawk helicopter. The M789 cartridge consists of a projectile containing explosive, a shaped charge liner, an M759 point-detonating fuze, aluminum cartridge case, propellant and a PA520 electric primer. The shaped charge allows the M789 to defeat light armor, and the steel projectile body provides an anti-personnel capability. M789 cartridges are packed in Bulk Ammunition Strips (BAS), 110 cartridges per M592 container. This item is Code A, approved for service use. --30mm XM1198 HEDP with Self Destruct (HEDP-SD) cartridge is a qualified combat cartridge for use in the XM914E1 Chain Gun with Percussion Prime Kit used on the Mobile Low, slow, small Intercept and Defeat System (MLIDS) ground vehicle platforms in response to Joint Urgent Operational Need (JUON) CC-0558, ONS 22-38522, and ONS 22-38528, and a Directed Requirement for Initial Maneuver Short Range Air Defense (IM-SHORAD) platforms. The XM1198 cartridge consists of a projectile containing explosive, a shaped charge liner, an XM1169 point-detonating, self destructing fuze, aluminum cartridge case, propellant and an M36A2 percussion primer. The shaped charge allows the XM1198 to defeat light armor, and the steel projectile body provides an anti-personnel and Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems defeat capability. The self destruct fuze allows for reduced collateral damage when engaging aerial targets. XM1198 cartridges are packed in a linked assembly with 72 cartridges per M592 container. This item is Code B, not approved for service use. (E10100) 30mm Target Practice (TP) cartridge: --30mm M788 TP is the only qualified training cartridge for use in the Apache and Blackhawk Helicopter's M230 Chain Gun. The M788 is a ballistic match to the M789 HEDP and consists of an inert projectile, lightweight aluminum cartridge case, propellant, and PA520 electric primer. M788 cartridges are packed in Bulk Ammunition Strips (BAS), 110 cartridges per M592 container. This item is Code A, approved for service use. --30mm XM950 TP is the only qualified training cartridge for use in the XM914E1 Chain Gun with Percussion Prime Kit used on the Mobile Low, slow, small Intercept and Defeat System (MLIDS) ground vehicle platforms in response to Joint Urgent Operational Need (JUON) CC-0558, ONS 22-38522, and ONS 22-38528, and a Directed Requirement for Initial Maneuver Short Range Air Defense (IM-SHORAD) platforms. (E10111) 30x113mm XM1211 High Explosive Proximity (HEP) cartridge is a qualified combat cartridge for use in the XM914 Chain Gun mounted on the Mobile Low, slow, small Intercept and Defeat System (MLIDS) and Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS) ground vehicle platforms in response to Joint Urgent Operational Need Statement (JUONS) CC-0558, ONS 22-38522, and ONS 22-38528. The XM1211 cartridge consists of a projectile containing high explosive, a proximity module, an M759 Safe and Arm (S&A) device, an aluminum cartridge case, propellant and an M36A2 percussion primer. The proximity module detects nearby targets and detonates without the need for direct impact. The cartridge incorporates an electric self-destruct feature, which will cause the projectile to detonate at predetermined range, reducing collateral damage when engaging aerial targets. XM1211 cartridges are packed in a linked assembly with 72 cartridges per M592 container. This item is Code B, not approved for service use. (E91122) 30x113mm XM1225 Aviation Proximity Explosive (APEX) cartridge is a combat cartridge for use in the Apache Helicopter M230 Chain Gun in response to Operational Need Statement (ONS) 07-1402 and in support of the Apache AH-64E version 6 system. The XM1225 cartridge consists of the M789 cartridge, a projectile containing explosive, an M759 point-detonating fuze, aluminum cartridge case, propellant and a PA520 electric primer but with increased lethality through airburst effects against personnel, small boats, and small Groups 1 & 2 Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) without requiring modification to the Apache Helicopter M230 Area Weapon and fire control systems. XM1225 cartridges are packed in Bulk Ammunition Strips (BAS), 110 cartridges per M592 container. This item is Code B, not approved for service use.
Justification
Justification — CTG, 30mm, All Types
FY 2026 Base Budget supports critical Army Title 10 war reserve/operational, training, and test requirements IAW DoD Instruction 3000.04 (Munitions Requirements Process) and AR 5-13 (Total Army Munitions Requirements Process and Prioritization System). War reserve requirements support OSD-approved Combatant Commander Operational Plans, Homeland Defense, and other OSD-directed missions. Training requirements support individual and collective training of Active and Reserve Component forces at Army schools, home station, and the combined training centers. Test requirements support the development, fielding, safety, and quality assurance of Army munitions and equipment throughout their life cycle. In accordance with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110-181), this item is necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities. FY 2026 Total Base procurement dollars in the amount of $100.392 million support procurement of 0.828 million 30mm cartridges. (E07306) 30x173mm M1173 Target Practice with Trace (TP-T) is a training unique item not used in combat. The FY 2026 request supports annual training and builds a depot level in accordance with Army's procurement goals.
