Description
Description — Stinger Mods
The Stinger Block I missile is an advanced, fire-and-forget, short-range, Soldier-portable, shoulder-fired and platform mounted guided missile system that provides the air defense protection for the maneuver force and point defense assets. Stinger's mission is to provide the force with low-altitude air defense against Fixed Wing (FW) and Rotary Wing (RW) Aircraft, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Cruise Missiles (CM). The Stinger missile is deployable from a variety of platforms that includes vehicles, helicopters and UAS. Stinger is part of the Army Transformation Initiative.
Justification
Justification — Stinger Mods
The FY 2026 request for Stinger Mods includes 428,935 thousand of discretionary and 77,000 thousand of mandatory (reconciliation) for a total of 505,935 thousand. The mandatory funds will procure an additional 101 Stinger Block I missiles and 3 Production Verification Flight Test missiles. Further information for this reconciliation request is provided in Section 20003 (Missile Defense) of the Reconciliation Exhibit. The FY 2026 funding of $428.935 Million procures 547 Stinger Block I missiles and 18 Stinger Block I Production Verification Flight Test missiles. Funding also provides for Acceptance Testing, Test Equipment, Engineering Services and Program Management support. Unit price and quantities reflect yearly Foreign Military Sales (FMS) procurement of Stinger missiles. In the event FMS procurements do not occur at this level, the budgeted missile price and quantities may not be achievable. The unit cost on the FY24/FY25 contract is based on bundling with FMS. FY26 will not bundle with FMS partners driving the unit cost increase. In accordance with Section 1815 of the FY08 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110-181), this item is necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities. Stinger is part of the Army Transformation Initiative.
