Description — Disaster Incident Response Comms Terminal (DIRECT)
Disaster Incident Response Emergency Communications Terminal (DIRECT) capability provides communication to each of the 50 States and 4 Territories to meet the information exchange requirements of the States National Guard (NG) operational commanders while performing Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) missions. DIRECT leverages the Army's Tactical Network to provide seamless network connectivity to support first responders and emergency managers. DIRECT Capabilities consist of: Commercial Coalition Equipment (CCE): Provides commercial internet access to civilian and multinational partners to reduce Size Weight and Power (SWaP) technology, thus fully addressing the increasingly high demand for accelerated capabilities. Interconnects disparate voice communications networks/devices used by multiple response agencies at an incident site. Cellular Solution (Commercial Wireless and Secure Cellular): Provides immediate cellular and wireless network connectivity to first responders, state authorities, and federal authorities allowing for enhanced Command and Control (C2) and shared situational awareness at an incident site. DIRECT capability was previously funded under The Joint Incident Site Communications Capability (JISCC) (B0009) and are realigned to B47200 beginning in FY 2022.
Justification
Justification — Disaster Incident Response Comms Terminal (DIRECT)
B47200 has no funding request in FY 2026. In accordance with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110-181), this item is necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities.
