Description
Description — AAV7A1 PIP
The AAV7A1 Product Improvement Program (PIP) is the Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV) Modifications Line which includes life-cycle support to ensure cost-effective combat readiness for the AAV Family of Vehicles (FOV). This is accomplished through continuous review of sub-systems to maintain system supportability and safety, procurement of replacement systems for obsolescence, and fielding of Engineering Change Proposals (ECP) for capability-based improvements of fleet assets, reduced total ownership cost initiatives, and improved AAV sustainment initiatives. The AAV Modifications Line procures modernized components and subsystems that impact safe and reliable use of AAV such as Intercom Modernization, Tactical Communication Modernization (TCM), replacement of the legacy manned turret system with a modernized Remote Weapons Station (RWS) for Personnel-variants (P-variant), technical refresh of servers and laptops for Command-variants (C-Variant), and associated support for the AAV FOV. Funding provided will go towards sustainment of the fleet for major dead-lining issues, safety of use, and obsolescence through system retirement of the AAVP7s and AAVC7s by the end of FY 2027 and the AAVR7s by the end of FY 2029.
Justification
Justification — AAV7A1 PIP
FY 2026 Base Appropriation Request: $0.021M - Funding provides for efforts to sustain the fleet in Engineering Maintenance and Technical Support (EMTS), material procurements to replace legacy parts and components. Integrated Logistics Support, and Publications and Technical Data support will continue at a declining rate as AAVs are retired from the fleet. Estimated retirement date for the AAV Personnel (AAVP7) and Command (AAVC7) variants is by the end of FY 2027; estimated retirement date for the AAV Recovery (AAVR7) variant is by the end of FY 2029. The decrease of $2.752M from FY 2025 to FY 2026 is attributed to reduced requirements for Engineering Change Orders, Integrated Logistics Support, and Publications and Technical Data due to the end of the AAV PIP and the transition of the program from sustainment to system retirement.
