Description
Description — Ammo Modernization
The Ammunition Modernization budget supports the United States Marine Corps Ground Conventional Ammunition (Supply Class V(W)) Ammunition Lifecycle Management phases of acquisition and procurement, with the goal of maximizing readiness, supportability and accountability. Efforts involve the technical analysis and labor from Naval Surface Warfare Centers (NSWCs) Corona, Crane, Indian Head, and Dahlgren Divisions in order to enable the acquisition of modernized, ground-delivered Class V(W) ammunition. This funding line also supports technical efforts in systems assessments, service life analysis, testing and evaluations, technical drawing packages, and malfunction investigations. These life cycle management functions maintain the USMC ammunition inventory through quality assurance programs that are vital to predicting service life trends and keeping the warfighter safe during training and operational scenarios. Ammunition Modernization is an ongoing level-of-effort program that will exist for as long as the United States Marine Corps maintains ammunition. The consolidation of Ammunition Modernization cost elements enables the budgeting and execution of program requirements to be reflected in a current, more accurate division of support associated with the procurement and improvement of ammunition for the Marine Corps.
