Description
Mission — Tactically Responsive Space (TacRS)
Tactically Responsive Space (TacRS) rapidly integrates and deploys space-based end-to-end capabilities in response to Combatant Commander (CCMD) urgent needs for power projection and characterization. TacRS missions will be capable of entering operations and generating effects on tactically relevant timelines. The near-term focus of TacRS is to establish these foundational concepts enabling the Space Force to establish the necessary capabilities, processes, concept of operations, and tactics, techniques and procedures to enable a rapid response. In FY 2026, funding will be used to finalize an early operational Space Domain Awareness (SDA) capability that will involve a rapid call-up, launch, and space vehicle operations. In addition, funding will be used to develop the maneuverable, prepositioned SDA TacRS missions. Furthermore, funding will be used to support follow-on SDA operational missions requiring both rapid launch and maneuverable, prepositioned capabilities. Finally, funding will be used to mature new TacRS concepts including, but not limited to, the ability to quickly utilize commercial capabilities. The FY 2026 request for TacRS includes $33,282 thousands of discretionary and $135,000 thousands of mandatory (reconciliation) for a total of $168,282 thousands. The mandatory funds additional TacRS space and launch vehicles in FY 2026. Further information for this reconciliation request is provided in Section 20009 (INDOPACOM Capabilities) of the Reconciliation Exhibit. This program element may include necessary civilian pay expenses required to manage, execute, and deliver Tactically Responsive Space weapon system capability. The use of such program funds would be in addition to the civilian pay expenses budgeted in program elements 1206392SF and 1206398SF. This effort is in Budget Activity 4, Advanced Component Development and Prototypes (ACD&P), because efforts are necessary to evaluate integrated technologies, representative modes or prototype systems in a high fidelity and realistic operating environment.

TacRS Initial Operations and Continuous Capability Development
TacRS will leverage rapid, agile, and end-to-end acquisition processes to quickly evolve the design of future TacRS missions. This approach will enable timely integration and readiness for launch call-up, Combatant Commander (CCMD) tasking, and procurement of capabilities based on current threats and priorities.
