Description
Description — LCAC
The LCAC (Landing Craft, Air Cushion), which consists of both the legacy and LCAC 100 classes of craft, mission is to transport weapons systems, equipment, cargo, and personnel of the assault elements for the Marine Air/Ground Task Force from ship to shore and across the beach. The LCAC rides on a cushion of air contained in a flexible skirt and is propelled by two aft-mounted, reversible, variable pitch propellers. It is capable of speeds in excess of 40 knots. The LCAC sustainment funding is programmed for equipment procurement using OPN to replace selected engines, Personnel Transport Modules and other equipment that the fleet urgently requires to maintain acceptable levels of readiness. LC001 - LCAC SYSTEM UPGRADES The LCAC System Upgrade Program provides procurement and installation of components required to maintain acceptable levels of fleet operational readiness. LCAC System Upgrade Program will also provide materials to support systems upgrades. Equipment removal and installation will take place at Assault Craft Unit FOUR (ACU 4), ACU 5 and Naval Beach Unit SEVEN (NBU 7). Specific items procured vary from year to year based on Fleet needs; these items include but are not limited to C4N upgrades and deep skirt replacements. LC002 - ENGINES The ETF-40B engines are enhanced versions of the current TF-40B engines and are installed on Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) craft. Catastrophic engine failures have highlighted the need for spare engines to reduce operational downtime. Engine procurements are also for Pack Up Kits (PUKs) that accompany fleet deployment of LCACs aboard amphibious ships. Additional ETF-40B Engines will be needed to meet operational needs. LC007 - LIGHTWEIGHT ARMOR The portable lightweight armor system replaces the existing armor system. The portable system can be transported via a Container Express (CONEX) box and provides the fleet ballistic/fragmentation protection to manned spaces on the craft as well as to selected machinery components. LC008 - COLD WEATHER KITS LCAC requires to be capable of operating in temperature ranges from 10 degrees Fahrenheit to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. In order to operate in weather conditions below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, a cold weather kit is required. Snow and ice accumulation leads to actuation of a safety system that bypasses the main engine inlet air filtration system and allows engines to draw in unfiltered air. Cold weather kits prevent snow and ice accumulation in the main engines during cold weather operations keeping the craft operational during deployments. LC009 - PERSONNEL TRANSPORT MODULE The Personnel Transport Module (PTM) provides the capability of the Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) to transport personnel and protect occupants from the elements inherent in an amphibious environment. LC010 - LCAC 100 CLASS MAJOR SHORE BASED SPARES (Ship to Shore Connector, SSC) Major Shore Based Spares (MSBS) Spares to be procured beginning in FY22 include major equipment with long lead times including such items as Engines, Skirts, Composites, Auxiliary Power Units, Propellers, Bow and Stern Ramps, Gearboxes, Lift Fan Impellers, and Fuel Pump & Metering Units. First craft arrived at the ACU 4 in FY22. LC011 - TRAINER SYSTEM UPGRADES AND MODERNIZATION Upgrade / modernization of the LCAC Full Motion Trainer (FMT), which provides essential training for the Operator, Engineer, Navigator, and Group Commander of the LCAC, in the complex skills required for the safe operation of the LCAC in both normal and casualty mode.

The FY 2026 request for LCAC includes $0 thousand in discretionary and $20,321 thousand of mandatory (reconciliation) for a total of $20,321 thousand. The mandatory funds fund the procurement of Major Shore Based Spares (MSBS) for LCAC 100 class craft. Further information for this reconciliation request is provided in Sections 20002 (Shipbuilding) and 200010 (Readiness) of the Reconciliation Exhibit. The FY 2026 request was reduced by $1.690 million for Advisory and Assistance Services to promote efficiencies and advance the policies of the Administration in alignment with Executive Order 14222, "Implementing the President's Department of Government Efficiency Cost Efficiency Initiative."
