This budget line includes 7.62mm ALL TYPES. (E01902) 7.62mm Blank, M82 w/M13 Link is linked in 100-round belts for training use in the M240 family of machine weapons. The M82 is a blank cartridge (no projectile) designed to mimic the sound and function of combat ammunition with the use of a blank-firing adaptor. It can be identified by its long neck and rosette-crimped mouth. It is intended for training use only and is not suitable for combat. This item is Code A, approved for service use. (E02002) 7.62mm 4 Ball M80/1 Tracer M62, w/M13 Link consists of M80 Ball and M62 Tracer rounds linked four-to-one and is used in the M240 Machine Gun. It is intended for use against personnel and nonarmored targets. Bullet consisting of copper alloy clad steel jacket with lead antimony slug. This item is Code A, approved for service use. (E02007) 7.62mm 4 BALL/1 TRACER F/OHF consists of an M80 Overhead Fire (OHF) ball and an M62 OHF tracer cartridge linked four to one and is used for overhead fire in the M240 Machine Gun family of weapons. Manufactured with unique bullet jackets and no base closure seals to reduce fragmentation or shrapnel risks to soldiers training underneath the flight path of these bullets. This item is Code A, approved for service use. (E02011) 7.62mm M80A1 Enhanced Performance Round (EPR) Ball is linked in a 100-cartridge belt with the M13 link for use in the M240 Machine Gun family of weapons. The M80A1 Ball Cartridge has a steel penetrator and non-lead slug surrounded by a copper jacket. They are intended for use against personnel and light-armored targets. This Item is Code A, approved for service use. (E02012) 7.62mm M80A1 Enhanced Performance Round (EPR) Ball Cartridges and M62A1 Tracer Cartridges are linked in a 100-cartridge belt in a 4 Ball/1 Tracer configuration with the M13 link for use in the M240 Machine Gun family of weapons. The M80A1 Ball Cartridge has a steel penetrator and a non-lead slug surrounded by a copper jacket. The M62A1 Tracer Cartridge also contains a lead-free projectile and provides a visible red-light signature through its trajectory and is a ballistic match with the M80A1 trajectory. The XM1161E1 Enhanced Performance Round is being phased in to replace M62A1 - Tracer Cartridge contains 2-piece projectile consisting of a steel penetrator and a non-lead jacket and provides a visible light signature through its trajectory with a limited view during its early trajectory. The XM1161E1 Enhanced Performance Round - Tracer Cartridge provide visible signature of fire out to 800 meters and a limited view visible signature to the shooter only for 300m. They are intended for use against personnel and light-armored targets. This Item is Code A, approved for service use. (E89100) 7.62mm M118 Long Range cartridge is a match grade design intended for long-range accuracy and is packed in a 20-cartridge cardboard carton and intended for Sniper use in the M40, M110, M110A1, and MK21 Rifles. It is intended for use against personnel and non-armored targets. This Item is Code A, approved for service use. (F57510) 7.62mm M1158 Advanced Armor-Piercing (ADVAP) Ball Cartridges and M62A1 Tracer Cartridges are linked in a 100-cartridge belt in a 4 Ball/1 Tracer configuration with the M13 link for use in the M240 Machine Gun family of weapons. The M1158 Ball Cartridge uses projectiles with an exposed black metal tip surrounded by a copper jacket. The M62A1 Tracer Cartridge also contains a lead-free projectile and provides a visible red-light signature through its trajectory and is a ballistic match with the M1158 trajectory. This item is intended for use against a broad spectrum of hard targets. This Item is Code A, approved for service use. (F57515) 7.62mm Reduced Range Cartridges, XM1164 Ball/XM1165 Tracer, are issued in a 100-cartridge belt with the M13 link for use in the M240 machine gun family. These cartridges are conventional small-caliber munitions with a modified projectile designed for live fire training on ranges with reduced Surface Danger Zones (SDZ). They are intended for training use only and are not suitable for combat. These items are Code B, not approved for service use.
Justification
Justification — CTG, 7.62MM, All Types
FY 2026 Base Budget supports critical Army Title 10 war reserve/operational, training, and test requirements in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction 3000.04 (Munitions Requirements Process) and Army Regulation 5-13 (Total Army Munitions Requirements Process and Prioritization System). War reserve requirements support Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) approved Combatant Commander Operational Plans, Homeland Defense, and other OSD-directed missions. Training requirements support individual and collective training of Active and Reserve Component forces at Army schools, home station, and the combined training centers. Test requirements support the development, fielding, safety, and quality assurance of Army munitions and equipment throughout their life cycle. In accordance with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110-181), this item is necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities. FY 2026 Base Budget supports the Minimum Sustaining Rates at both Lake City Army Ammunition Plant (LCAAP) as well as the Second Source facility in Oxford, MS. FY 2026 Total Base dollars in the amount of $62.157 million supports the procurement of 54.785 million cartridges. The Army intends to convert any price advantage created through contract negotiations, other service procurement, and/or Foreign Military Sales (FMS) to increase procurement of 7.62MM ALL TYPES when possible. (E01902) 7.62mm Blank, M82 w/M13 Link is a training unique item not used in combat. The FY 2026 request supports annual training and builds a depot level in accordance with the Army's procurement goals. The FY 2026 Base procurement dollars in the amount of $6.936 million supports the procurement of 10.102 million Blank M82 cartridges. Type classification date: 1960 (E02002) 7.62mm 4 Ball M80/1 Tracer M62, w/M13 Link is a training standard item used in training and combat. There is no FY 2026 request for this item. Type classification date: 1962 (E02007) 7.62mm 4 BALL/1 TRACER F/OHF is a training unique item and is not used in combat. The FY 2026 request supports annual training and builds a depot level in accordance with the Army's procurement goals. The FY 2026 Base procurement dollars in the amount of $0.346 million supports the procurement of 0.333 million rounds. TYPE CLASSIFICATION DATE: 1975 (E02011) 7.62mm M80A1 Enhanced Performance Round (EPR) Lead Free Slug (LFS) Ball Cartridge is a training standard item used in training and combat. The FY 2026 request supports annual training and builds a war reserve inventory in accordance with the Army's procurement goals. The FY 2026 Base procurement dollars in the amount of $2.040 million supports the procurement of 1.853 million 7.62mm M80A1 1 Ball (EPR) (LFS) Cartridges. Type classification date: 1962 (E02012) 7.62mm M80A1 Enhanced Performance Round (EPR) 4 Ball /1 Trace, Lead Free Slug (LFS) Cartridge /M62A1 LFS Tracer Cartridge; XM1161E1 Enhanced Performance Round - Tracer Cartridge are training standard items used in training and combat. The FY 2026 request supports annual training and builds a war reserve inventory in accordance with the Army's procurement goals. The FY 2026 Base procurement dollars in the amount of $42.734 million supports the procurement of 36.037 million 7.62mm M80A1 4 Ball/1Trace (EPR) Cartridges. Type classification date: 1962 (E89100) 7.62mm M118 Long Range Round is a training standard item used in training and combat. The FY 2026 request supports annual training and builds a war reserve inventory in accordance with the Army's procurement goals. The FY 2026 Base procurement dollars in the amount of $0.728 million supports the procurement of 0.609 million 7.62mm M118 Long Range Cartridges. Type classification date: Prior to 1997 (F57510) 7.62mm M1158 Advanced Armor-Piercing (ADVAP) Ball Cartridges and M62A1 Tracer Cartridges are linked in a 100-cartridge belt in a 4 Ball/1 Tracer configuration with the M13 link. This is a war reserve item used in combat. There is no FY 2026 request for this item.
