Description — Mines & Clearing Charges, All Types
This budget line includes Mines and Mine Clearing Charges, All Types. (E39315) The M18A1 Claymore Mine is used when a directional, fixed, fragmentation mine is required for the defense of bivouac areas, outposts, and against infiltration tactics. It is also used against thin-skinned vehicles. This item is Code A, approved for service use. (E72194) The M88 Volcano Practice Mine canister contains an explosive expulsion charge and six inert weighted simulants for the M87 & M87A1 tactical canisters. The use of four M88 canisters in the four corners of the M139 Volcano System provide Warfighters the live fire effect by expelling the six inert mine simulants, marking the start and end of a training mine field. Firing the M88 expels the six inert mine simulants at the same distance and distributions of density to represent similar emplacement of a tactical obstacle field. The M88 canisters are a one-time use Class V ammo item. This item is Code A, approved for service use. (E72800) The Anti-Personnel Obstacle Breaching System (APOBS) is used by dismounted troops in combat operations to clear a lane through wire obstacles and anti-personnel mines. This item is a lightweight, self-contained, 1 shot expendable system that is transported and deployed by a 2-man team. It consists of a line charge/fuze assembly and a rocket motor assembly. APOBS uses the MK126 Mod 0 rocket motor to propel a line charge over the obstacle. The line is then detonated, clearing a lane. The APOBS System is being actively used in Combat Engineering Operations. This item is Code A, approved for service use. (E75101) M58A4 Linear Demolition Charge, commonly called the Mine Clearing Line Charge (MICLIC), is deployed by the MK22 Mod 4 rocket from a MK155 launcher mounted to a M200A1 trailer or from the M1150 Assault Breacher Vehicle. Once deployed over the target minefield by the rocket, it is command detonated, clearing a vehicle width lane 100 meter long. The MICLIC is effective against single impulse, pressure fuzed mines. The M58A4 is less effective against blast hardened or complex fused mines. The M58A4 is being actively used in Combat Engineering Operations. This item is Code A, approved for service use. (E75102) Line Charge Inert M68A2 F/MICLIC is the training ammunition for the M58 Linear Demolition Charge. It is identical to the M58 except all explosive components have been replaced with non-explosive components of identical weight. It can be recovered after deployment by the MK22 MOD 4 rocket and used up to three times. This item is Code A, approved for service use. (E76900) The MK22 rocket is used to deploy the M58 Linear Demolition Charge or the M68A2 Inert Line Charge over a target obstacle. One rocket is used with each M58 and up to 3 can be used with each M68A2. This item is Code A, approved for service use.

Justification — Mines & Clearing Charges, All Types
FY 2026 Base Budget supports critical Army Title 10 war reserve/operational, training, and test requirements IAW DoD Instruction 3000.04 (Munitions Requirements Process) and AR 5-13 (Total Army Munitions Requirements Process and Prioritization System). War reserve requirements support OSD-approved Combatant Commander Operational Plans, Homeland Defense, and other OSD-directed missions. Training requirements support individual and collective training of Active and Reserve Component forces at Army schools, home station, and the combined training centers. Test requirements support the development, fielding, safety, and quality assurance of Army munitions and equipment throughout their life cycle. In accordance with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110-181), this item is necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities. The FY 2026 Total Base dollars in the amount of $42.748 million supports the procurement of 6 variants of Mines and Mine Clearing Charges. (E39315) MINE, AP M18A1 w/Non-Elec Ignition System This is a training standard item used in training and combat. FY 2026 request supports annual training and builds a war reserve inventory in accordance with Army's procurement goals. FY 2026 Base procurement dollars in the amount of $1.643 million supports production of 2,869 Claymores. Type Classification Date: 1960 (E72194) Practice M88 Volcano - This is a training standard item used in functional training. FY 2026 request supports annual training builds war reserve inventory in accordance with the Army's procurement goal. FY 2026 Base procurement dollars in the amount of $2.177 million supports production of 283 M88 Practice Mine Canisters. Type Classification Date: 1989 (E72800) Anti-Personnel Obstacle Breaching Sys (APOBS) This is a training standard item used in training and combat. FY 2026 request supports annual training and builds a war reserve inventory in accordance with Army's procurement goals. FY 2026 Base procurement dollars in the amount of $26.555 million supports the procurement of 1,364 APOBS. Rocket Motor Grains and PBXN-10 explosive are provided as Government Furnished Material. Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head produces rocket motor grains. PBXN-10 is currently sourced from Holston Army Ammunition Plant. Type Classification Date: 2001 (E75101) Mine Clearing Line Charge M58 Series (MICLIC) This is a training standard item used in training and combat. FY 2026 request supports annual training and builds a war reserve inventory in accordance with Army's procurement goals. FY 2026 Base procurement dollars in the amount of $3.068 million supports the procurement of 28 MICLICs. Load Assembly Pack (LAP) is conducted by American Ordnance at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. C4 explosive is provided as Government Furnished Material and sourced from Holston Army Ammunition Plant. The FY 2024 actuals for base include $4.500 million emergency supplemental funding to support the MICLIC Aluminized C4 effort to qualify an aluminized C4 explosive for the 1750 lb MICLIC warhead. Type Classification Date: 1985 (E75102) Line Charge Inert M68A2 F/MICLIC This is a training standard item used in training and combat. FY 2026 Base procurement dollars in the amount of $0.487 million supports engineering for items in production. Type Classification Date: 1985 (E76900) MICLIC 5 In Rocket Motor MK 22 MOD 4 - This is a training standard item used in training and combat. FY 2026 request supports annual training and war reserve requirements in accordance with the Army's procurement goals. FY 2026 Base procurement dollars in the amount of $8.818 million supports the procurement of 148 Rocket Motors. LAP is conducted by Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head which awards direct cite funded contracts for subcomponents. The sole NTIB (National Technology and Industrial Base) source for N-5 propellant is to be selected. Type Classification Date: 1985
